Trick-or-Treat: Hot Halloween Costumes

Wednesday 30 September 2009 @ 7:32 pm

Boo! Ghosts, witches, critters and cute little faces will soon be parading down the streets, ringing doorbells and calling out trick-or-treat for candy bars. And while the excitement is building for children as to what they will wear on the big night, finding the perfect costume can be a never-ending battle for the adults.

As some creative parents brave the sewing machine and needle pricks as they set out to create the perfect costume for their little one made with lots of love, others tend to go the more conventional route and hit up the nearest shops to browse through the selections.

At Celebrity Baby Blog, we’ve tried to make the search that much easier by gathering up some of the hottest Halloween costumes! From plush puppies and cute kittens to friendly dinosaurs and little lady bugs, we’ve covered them all.

Check out our favorites below!

Kitty Costume; Rubies Plush Puppies Halloween Costume; Spider Costume

Diapers.com:

Old Navy:

  • Don’t squash this cute spider! Just the ticket for little ones who have discovered the fascinating world of creepy crawlers (and want to step into their eight legs for a night!), be sure to check out Old Navy’s Spider Costume ($22.50).
  • Meow! Felt whiskers and a soft faux-fur collar are the perfect finishing touches on Old Navy’s Kitty Costume ($22.50).
  • For the little ones, Old Navy offers an adorable selection of long sleeve tops — check out ‘I’m So Cute It’s Scary‘ ($6) and ‘Happy Halloween‘ ($5) — and a Glow-in-the-Dark Skeleton One-Piece ($9.50).

Costume Cauldron:

  • Oh the places you will go…with your child on Halloween in their Cat in the Hat ($23) costume!
  • For the cutest chick around, we’ve got our eye on Chick Toddler ($30).

One Step Ahead:

  • Parents really will be One Step Ahead with the wide-range selection of costumes this company has to offer. Our favorites? Lil’ Lion Costume ($50) and Tulip Pixie Costume ($23).
  • We also appreciate that One Step Ahead has considered younger siblings — too little to care about candy — who would much prefer to stay snuggled in their strollers. With the Goldfish Bunting Costume ($19) or the Banana Bunting Costume ($30), baby will boast both style and warmth!
Mini Mermaid; Cute Little Lady Bug Infant Costume; Infant and Toddler Plush Turtle Costume

The Children’s Place:

  • Bring a bit of spring to a cool, fall evening with Flower Costume ($17), a three-piece set that includes both a zip-up and snap closure for your budding blossom.
  • Rawr! We love the Dinosaur Costume ($22), which comes in a warm polyester, velour fabric complete with back scales and a long tail!

Pottery Barn Kids:

  • Any little princess is sure to spread her wings and try to fly in this Butterfly Tutu Costume ($69)! To add to the beautiful satin, long sleeve blouse and adorable matching wings and headband, make sure to check out the coordinating treat bag ($19).
  • For boys, try Puffy Alligator Costume ($59). The fully-lined, velour costume comes with felt scales down the back and tail for added texture and a matching head piece with some sharp looking (but soft to the touch!) teeth!

Chasing Fireflies:

  • Always a favorite, we are loving the two-piece Mini Mermaid ($34) costume for little girls.
  • A gender-neutral option, we like Baby Elephant ($58) costume, which includes slip-on baby booties with gripped bottoms.

Halloween Express:

Old Navy’s Halloween Felt Treat Bags

Treat Bags: Sure an extra pillow case — or something even as simple as a plastic bag! — works just as well, but for those parents looking to go all out for baby’s Halloween, check out these adorable treat bags.

Makeup: Need to paint a ghoulish face white? A witch’s face green? Add whiskers to your little kitten? We recommend Luna Organics ($13), a new kids’ natural make-up line made with organic, hypoallergenic ingredients.

Wednesday 30 September 2009 @ 2:31 pm

Juan Sato/WireImage

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt really loves her pink blanket, left. She loves it so much, we’ve spotted her several times toting it around.

After a little digging, we found out her cozy accessory is called the Baby Lovie mini blanket ($16) in bright pink polka dot. Made of super soft flannel and trimmed with satin, it was designed by Lynette Damir — a registered nurse in Seattle who founded Swaddle Designs after meeting scores of new parents struggling to swaddle their babies properly.

Snap one up for your little one! It comes in 13 cool colors including bright yellow, lavender and sage.

Stride Rite’s New High-Tech Toddler Shoes

Wednesday 30 September 2009 @ 2:30 pm
Stride Rite Carly shoe

Stride Rite recently launched a new line of shoes for beginning walkers equipped with Sensory Response Technology (nicknamed SRT) — and we’re big fans! The shoes, which all retail for $49, were created with the help of the Leon Root, M.D. Motion Analysis Laboratory to improve the way a child learns to walk via a sensory feedback system. This includes flexibility for growing feet and a unique design to reduce stumbles and falls.

The company’s new stabilizing footwear also sports moisture-wicking linings (to keep little feet drier) and eco-friendly materials such as a recycled EVA heel cup and a partially recycled outsole. The fall collection includes four boys’ styles and seven girls’ styles in baby sizes 3 to 8 in various widths.

We checked out the gorgeous Carly style (pictured) and I noticed that my 19-month-old daughter actually seemed more stable and confident while navigating her terrain. These shoes are a must-have for toddling tots — they literally keep them on their toes.

The Girls: Workout Pants That Hide Post-Baby Belly

Wednesday 30 September 2009 @ 12:10 pm

This mom has been hitting the gym; From Potty Training to Weight Training chronicles a bodybuilding journey to my first ever Figure competition next March. So my new routine includes a 5 a.m. wake up each morning to exercise before work. Yuck…though I must admit to loving the results. I also love my favorite pair of workout pants. The Girls women’s workout apparel includes patented Tummy Control which allows you to wear tighter tanks without the worry of post-baby belly sticking out. With styles for three “types” of girl, Yoga Girl, Cafe Girl and Shopping Girl, they have everything from shirts to pants which transition from office to gym. My favorite, the Tummy Control workout pants, include yoga, straight leg, capris and other styles. I was recently saddened when my previously beloved workout pants frayed so bad at the bottom they had to be retired, so The Girls was quite a find for this exercising mama. But luckily the boot cut pant (pictured) are just as soft and comfy. Are you hitting the gym as well? Which girl are you?

Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox: Sand in the Place Where You Live

Tuesday 29 September 2009 @ 11:25 pm
Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox

My daughter loves sand — a dive-in-face-first-and-swim-in-it kind of love. So it was only a matter of time before we put a sandbox in our yard and we’re glad we chose the Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox ($80). Not only is it fun for the kids, but it’s stylish and neutral enough to blend in with our lawn’s landscape.

It holds up to 200 lbs of sand, plus it has a mini seat at each corner and an easy-to-use cover with a pretty sun design. My only complaint is that water can collect in the grooves on top of the lid.

Not sure what to do with it when your kids have outgrown it? Use it as a planter for a flower garden.

Stephanie, crunchy, urban Canadian mama to a 4-year-old contrarian son and a 1-year-old philosopher daughter loves all things green, gadgety and glam.
