Friday 30 October 2009 @ 5:37 pm
Uno Dos Max

Unodosmax’s “Watch Them Grow” T-shirt Kit ($75) is a unique way to document your child’s first year. It comes with 12 white short sleeve lap tees ($6.25 each) in your choice of pink, blue or green numerals.

Each month, throw one these cute tees on your little one and take a photo. You’ll have an adorable pic for each month leading up to his or her first year. After your child turns one, use the pictures to create a keepsake like a calendar, collage or photo book!

Perfect for a baby shower or new baby gift, the kit was designed by Jill Topol — a former celebrity stylist for Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and the Jonas Brothers. She got the idea after designing personalized tees for her son Max (above) to mark each birthday.

Mutsy Transporter: Getting There Never Looked So Good!

Friday 30 October 2009 @ 5:37 pm
Mutsy Transporter in Sand

I’ve long admired Mutsy from afar but sticker shock always kept me from snapping one up.

This fall Mutsy — stroller maker of choice for celebrity moms like Laila Ali and Elin Woods — has debuted a new, more affordable model.

The Transporter ($399) isn’t a budget stroller by any stretch of the imagination, but it offers features and quality more often found in strollers that cost twice the price.

Click below for more.

Things We Like:

Right off the bat, I was impressed by the Transporter’s sturdy construction. The metal frame is lightweight yet solid, unfolding and clicking into place without any wiggling or squeaks. Easy to assemble, we popped the wheels on and had the Transporter up and running in a matter of minutes.

It’s also easy to maneuver on any surface and comes with a four-position height-adjustable handlebar — for parents of all heights. The wheels are rubber and lockable up front for uneven terrain. It also comes with a fully padded, reclining seat that’s 14-inches wide and 21 inches tall that can seat a child up to 55 lbs. safely and comfortably.

The padded five-point harness will keep your child secure, while the removable headrest offers additional support and comfort. Recommended for babies three months and older, it’s compatible with infant carseats from Maxi Cosi, Graco and Peg Perego. You can even buy a separate adapter kit to use the company’s bassinet ($150).

It comes with a sizable storage basket — it can easily hold a large diaper bag — that sports side zippers to help keep your things in place.

Also, folding up the Transporter is a cinch. Simply push back the canopy, fold down the handle and then push the two levers on the inside top of the frame. Given the size and weight (24 lbs) of this fully loaded stroller, it’s a pretty compact fold.

This classic, yet sleek-looking stroller comes in subdued unisex colors like black, red, grey and sand. I tested the gorgeous sand version (above) and got compliments on pretty much every outing.

Things We Don’t Like:

Despite the big storage basket, there weren’t many other places to stash things. The canopy is a decent size, but does not extend down to offer a baby or toddler complete shade.

Also the feel of the fabric was a slight disappointment — it’s stiffer than it looks — but it didn’t bother my son.

CBB Rating:

Overall, I’m thrilled with the Transporter. It has the look and feel of a far more expensive stroller, making it a bargain if your pockets are deep — or a smart splurge if you want a luxe look for less.

Give Birth on a Jet and Here’s What You Get!

Friday 30 October 2009 @ 4:28 pm

Baby WingsAbout a week ago, a woman aboard an AirAsia flight from the island of Penang to Borneo went into labor and delivered on the plane. Luckily, there was a doctor on board who helped with the delivery. For this unusual turn of events, the baby boy and his mother have been given free flights for life with the budget carrier. Not too shabby.

Personally, I would have given the doctor a free pass, too. So let’s take a look at this infrequent occurrence. The article I read didn’t say if this was a premature birth. If it wasn’t, what was that woman doing on a plane so close to her due date that she popped in mid-air? An even better question is will this be the next big reality show?

I can see it now…

screaming-womanDon’t miss the drama ofYou Big FlyBaby! Twenty-two pregnant women with due dates throughout the year are chosen to compete. Whichever woman books a flight so precisely that she goes into labor and delivers on the plane gets free flights on that airline for life. Cameras follow each woman as she, her husband and her obstetrician pinpoint the precise moment based on her office visits.

On the day of her flight, the cameras follow on board to see if she’s a winner. I think it’s a fair trade. She and her child get free flights for life in exchange for having cameras that follow her to her OB visits and, during labor and at the moment of delivery, zoom in for close ups while she screams in agony and calls her husband every name in the book. Will there always be a doctor on board? Nope. She has to take her chances on the flight she booked. Hey! Free flights for life!

AAAAAAAAAAAAANow that’s must-see TV!
